Event Details

Join us for a benefit event,  and support the educational projects of GalaxyGoo!

Come on over to Bliss Bar, and join us for a night of festivities with GalaxyGoo!

We've just had a sponsor offer drink tickets to all guests who buy their tickets before the event night, and arrive before 6:30.

Get your tickets now, arrive before 6:30, and you'll get a drink ticket along with your goody bag!

It's fun to do these things, but we've also got an agenda....a good one!  These are very tough economic times, especially for the non-profit sector.  GalaxyGoo, a non-profit dedicated to increasing science literacy,  needs to raise funds for the coming year.

Can't make it to the event,  but still want to support GalaxyGoo?  Visit our website for online donation options.

Food: provided by 24th Street Cheese Company, and others.

Fantastic Door Prizes and Goody Bags provided by:  Adobe,  Bernie's, California Academy of Sciences,  24th Street Cheese Company, Cooks Boulevard, Cover to Cover, Ladybug Ladybug, The Tech, True Sake, and more...

VIP Tickets: A limited number of VIP tickets will be available. VIP goodie bags will also include special goodies, including a GalaxyGoo water bottle and matching Gym Bag.

More details and goodness in the works. For further event updates and details, check this event page and GalaxyGoo's facebook page.

GalaxyGoo's Mission Statement:

To provide compelling scientific content, of interest to the student, scientist, and general public.

To explore new ways of presenting information on the internet.

To advance public understanding of scientific concepts.

To encourage discussion and exploration of science and mathematics.

To foster a community of scientists, teachers, students, and their neighbors.

GalaxyGoo  Funding Needs,  To Meet With This Event:

  • Operating expenses for our website server: over $6K/year
  • GalaxyGoo's most popular projects include educational media used by AIDS educators around the world (especially in India and Africa). We host these projects on the GalaxyGoo website, where they are free to students, teachers, and the general public.
  • The Cell Project: If we raise enough, we'll also be able to provide classroom materials (modeling clay) for students whose teachers participate in our Cell Project (a hands-on science activity where students build 3D models of a cell from colorful clay, and then slice them open to examine the cross sections).  See our flickr group for examples!

Flash-a-thon Artistic Theme:

The GalaxyGoo Flash-a-thon, is an online event  that brings together computational artists from around the world.  We hope to have many of these works on display at the GalaxyGoo Gathering at Bliss.  The artists contribute their unique projects, along with their source files. This year's theme is "Particle".

Particles. They come in all sizes and shapes. They aggregate into complex structures. We ourselves are made of them, even as we exist as particles in a larger system.

Particles can form simple swarms with simple behaviour. They can exist in a complex system with simple rules, generating complex behaviors. They can be active individuals and steadfast obstacles. They can wear disguises, and trick us into thinking they are something else.
